Getting Started with Drupal Contribution
Day: Thursday
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Room: Room 305
Thursday, September 27 from 9am to 5pm.
Most Drupallers dream of being a contributor to the Drupal project. But where do you begin? And more importantly, what are some of the tools to help navigate the adventure successfully?
This training is intended for EVERYONE who wants to learn how to contribute, not just those who are new to tech. No coding knowledge is required, there are plenty of ways to give back to Drupal without having to code.
In the morning, we will discuss why contribution to open source is important and go through some of the tools necessary for working in the Drupal issue queue when being a novice to the queue. After lunch we'll have the opportinuity to work on real issues on our own or in groups.
Tools of the trade:
- Local Drupal environment
- Simplytest.me
- Git Client
- Dreditor
There will also be a hands on workshop demonstrating the process of finding a bug, creating an issue, writing a patch, uploading the fix to Drupal.org, and then reviewing the patch for RTBC (reviewed and testing by the community).
Attendees will get the most out of this session if they develop on a Linux or OSX system.
Prerequisites:
- A positive attitude about contributing back to open source software, a willingness to learn and elementary understanding of Drupal.
- A laptop - preferably with a working local Drupal environment (but not necessary as we will go over some of the steps for setup).
